LIVE INTERVIEW HELP · AUDIO TROUBLESHOOTING
Can’t hear the interviewer?
Check the audio path.
Find out whether the problem is your microphone, the other person’s audio, the transcript or the answer request.
We make InterviewRep. These instructions separate browser behavior from the specific product flows we checked. They do not certify every meeting app, device or operating system.
Why can it hear me but not the interviewer?
Microphone permission gives the tool a microphone input. It does not automatically include sound from a meeting tab or desktop app. If only your words appear in the transcript, check how the remote participant’s audio reaches the assistant. A visible screen share is not proof that an audio track was shared.
There are two audio paths
Trace the path that is missing. Changing a microphone setting will not by itself create a shared-audio track.
Start with the symptom you can observe
Nothing appears when I speak
- Confirm that the live session is running, rather than paused or stopped.
- Check the site’s microphone permission and the microphone selected in your browser. Chrome’s official microphone instructions explain permissions and device selection.
- Check operating-system permission if the browser prompts for it. A managed work or school browser may restrict changes.
- Say one short, recognizable sentence. If it still does not appear, stop the session and record your browser, operating system, selected input and visible error before asking for help.
My speech appears, but the interviewer’s does not
Your microphone path is working. Check whether you selected a supported tab or system-audio source for the remote person’s voice. Do not assume that sharing a window, screen or tab includes audio. Available choices depend on the browser and operating system.
With headphones, the remote voice normally goes to your headphones rather than becoming a direct microphone input. Do not rely on loudspeaker leakage as a dependable capture setup.
I can see the shared screen, but remote speech is missing
Check whether the browser chooser offered an audio-sharing option and whether you selected it. The screen-capture API can provide video without audio. Chrome documents separate controls for system and tab audio; read its sharing-controls guidance for the distinction. If an audio option is unavailable, that selection does not establish a supported audio path.
The transcript works, but answer suggestions do not appear
In InterviewRep, answer suggestions are requested on demand. Press Space or select Generate Answer when you want help. A working transcript does not mean an answer was requested. Check any visible request error, then use your own judgment to evaluate the suggestion.
Run a short two-speaker check
- Confirm permission. Use a consenting person and a non-sensitive conversation. Check that transcription and AI assistance are allowed.
- Identify the setup. Note the browser, operating system, meeting app, microphone and selected sharing source. Test the setup you actually intend to use.
- Test your voice. Say: “My microphone test phrase is blue notebook.” Check whether those words appear.
- Test the remote voice. Ask the other person to say: “The remote test phrase is green window.” Check that their different words appear too. Do not read their phrase into your microphone.
- Request one suggestion. Ask a simple question whose answer you can verify, request help, and inspect the result. A plausible response does not prove factual accuracy.
- Stop promptly. In InterviewRep, each started minute of a live transcription connection uses one credit. Resuming starts a new charged minute. Do not keep reconnecting without changing the suspected cause.
Separate capture, transcription and suggestions
Capture: did the intended person’s voice reach the input? Transcription: did their words appear correctly? Suggestion: did you request an answer, and is it accurate for the question and your experience? Check each step in order. Repeating an AI request cannot repair missing interviewer audio.
What our checks establish
Our release checks covered a microphone transcript, requested AI suggestions and a saved conversation archive. They did not certify remote-audio capture across Zoom, Meet, Teams, desktop apps, browsers or operating systems. Browser documentation explains the controls; it does not establish InterviewRep compatibility with every combination.
For a failed setup, keep a brief report: browser/version, operating system, meeting app, selected microphone, shared source, whose speech appeared and the exact visible error. Avoid including interview transcripts, resumes or private meeting details.
